“Jagatai Khan: The Unconquerable Conqueror”
In the annals of Warhammer 40,000, Jagatai Khan stands as a beacon of power, strategy, and resilience. His story is one of overcoming insurmountable odds, the unification of disparate tribes, and an ambitious dream of liberation from the bloody tyranny of the Palatine Empire.
Jagatai’s journey to greatness was not an easy one. His early challenge? Dissolving the deep-rooted memories of a thousand-year intertribal war from the minds of his warriors. A task as formidable as it sounds, but the young Khan was undeterred. The fighters who joined his ranks were deliberately disassociated from their fellow tribesmen. They were placed in units comprising of warriors from a myriad of tribes, thus dismantling their previous tribal affiliations and blood feuds.
The Khan instilled a singular loyalty in his soldiers – loyalty to the Talari Confederation and to him personally. This approach fostered a sense of unity and aspiration within his ranks. His warriors now dreamt of a common goal – to crush the Palatine Empire. Their shared dream saw them form an army so vast it exceeded the number of stars in the sky of Chorus.
However, the harsh reality of nomadic life was not lost on Jagatai. Ten years after his arrival on Chorus, he led his unified people to their annual winter quarters. A sudden snow avalanche separated the Khan and a small detachment of his warriors, throwing them into an abyss. The tribe was forced to move on, bidding farewell to their leader in their thoughts.
Yet, destiny had other plans. Jagatai survived. Emerging from the snow, he found himself surrounded by a squad of hunters led by the Emperor’s son, Palatine. This encounter saw the young Khan deliver a crippling blow to the Palatine Empire, slaughtering all but one of the hunters, and sending a clear message – the nomadic tribes were no longer pawns in the bloody rituals of the Empire.
The enraged Empire retaliated, sending its army to the Talsari territory. They underestimated Jagatai’s military prowess and the strength of his unified army. The Palatine-led heavy cavalry and infantry were no match for Jagatai’s light cavalry. The Talsari quickly decimated their forces, with only the Emperor Palatine and a few of his bodyguards managing to escape back to the capital.
Following this triumphant victory, Jagatai was declared the “KH of KH”, the lawful ruler of his people. With his newfound status, the Primarch set his sights on the remaining territories of Chorus, recruiting warriors such as Hasik, Tagai, Yugi, and Jinsha who would become his loyal comrades for life.
The conquest was swift and relentless. The Kagan offered the inhabitants of enemy cities a simple choice: surrender or die. Most cities wisely surrendered, while those foolish enough to reject mercy were obliterated. Even the Emperor Palatine was not spared. His head was demanded by Jagatai and promptly delivered by the locals, marking the end of the Palatine Empire.
In less than twenty standard years, Jagatai Khan had conquered his home world. His empire, however, was not born out of a greedy desire for land or resources. It was born from the dreams of steppe peoples yearning for liberation from tyranny.
Jagatai’s rise to power caught the attention of the Master of Mankind, who was deeply impressed by his successes. Unfortunately, history was not given the chance to assess his administrative abilities or his talent for creating a peaceful existence for his people. Just as his rule extended from ocean to ocean, the Emperor descended upon the planet, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the tale of Jagatai Khan.
