The Drukhari – Art of Cruelty – Part 7

Title: The Rise of Asdrubael Vect and the Cabal of the Black Heart

Part of our multi-part series exploring the intricate lore of Warhammer 40,000, in this installment we delve into the dramatic ascension of Asdrubael Vect, the Supreme Overlord of the Dark City and the founder of the Cabal of the Black Heart.

A cunning and ruthless leader, Vect’s notorious reputation started to take shape when he audaciously captured a Space Marine Cruiser from the Salamanders Chapter. This act of defiance sparked a brutal onslaught from the Emperor’s loyal servants, a storm that Vect not only weathered, but used to his advantage.

When the dust of the invasion settled within the webway and the heart of Commorragh, the entire leadership had been decimated, their cabals stripped of influence. This was the moment when Vect, like a dark phoenix rising from the ashes, seized the throne, marking a new era for the Dark City.

As Vect’s reign took hold, the Cabal of the Black Heart flourished, growing richer and more powerful, rapidly becoming the largest and most influential force within the city. This surge in power essentially made Vect the undisputed ruler of the Dark City, a position he has held with an iron grip for centuries.

Vect’s survival and reign are a testament to his cunning and caution. Despite numerous assassination attempts, Vect has remained unscathed, often using his double, G’elding, as a decoy. His reign is not just one of manipulation and political savvy, Vect is also a formidable warrior. When the bloodlust takes him, he enters the battlefield seated upon the Throne of Destruction, a unique Ravager modification equipped with a special force field to ensure his safety.

When the mood strikes, Vect chooses to fight on foot, wielding obsidian orbs forged from the souls of tormented victims. These orbs serve a dual purpose, healing Vect in combat while feeding on the fear of his enemies. His primary weapon, the Scepter of the Dark City, is not just a symbol of his supreme authority but is equipped with pain inducers that intensify the suffering inflicted on his victims.

Asdrubael Vect is a force to be reckoned with, a scourge across the galaxy. For hundreds of thousands of years, he has been a primary target for the Officio Assassinorum. However, neither the Imperial assassins nor rivals from within the Dark City have succeeded in ending his life. The extent of the trouble he will continue to bring upon the Imperium is known only to the Emperor himself, and only the Emperor can provide protection against it.

Join us next time as we continue to unravel the complex and thrilling lore of Warhammer 40,000.
