In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium, there is only war, and no one knows this better than Inquisitor Valeria. A stalwart presence in the Ordo Xenos, Valeria is a firm believer in utilising the weapons of the enemy against themselves. She’s not afraid to cross boundaries and violate edicts, for she understands that the Inquisition is charged with the weighty task of protecting Humanity from itself and the hostile galaxy. For this crucial mission, Valeria is prepared to employ any means necessary, even those considered extreme.
Valeria’s dedication to her duty is not just evident in her fearless approach but also in her masterful collection of arcane artifacts, fragments of bygone eras, and ancient alien devices. Her decades-long journey has taken her to remote backwater worlds, through the ancient documents of the Soman libraries, and to hundreds of alien civilizations, all in the pursuit of knowledge that could be beneficial to humanity.
Among her many adventures, the discovery of the Forge of Dimensions stands out as a monumental achievement. This legendary artifact, first found by Janus during one of his early battles, was said to create a null zone, a region of space impervious to demonic penetration. However, the location of this artifact was lost during the chaotic aftermath of the Catastrophic Howl. So, when Valeria received word that a Xenos device, matching the description of the Forge, was discovered on Hive Kavlock, she wasted no time.
Unfortunately, Valeria’s expedition was interrupted by an invasion from the Imperium. To add to her woes, her pursuit was recognized by her Puritan foe, Emil Darkhammer, a man who deemed any alien technology blasphemous. Arriving after Valeria, Darkhammer ordered an Exterminatus, supposedly to halt the spread of warp desecration. Valeria could only watch as Kavlock and its secrets were reduced to ashes. This marked the beginning of a vendetta between Valeria and Darkhammer, a conflict that would ripple through the Inquisition.
While Valeria mourned the loss of billions of citizens, her fury was ignited by the destruction of the Forge of Dimensions. She began a relentless quest for retribution, hunting Darkhammer across the Obscurus Segmentum under the guise of justice. This feud between the Inquisitors is not uncommon, and as of yet, other agents of the throne remain neutral. However, if this conflict persists, they will inevitably have to choose sides, which could potentially shake the Inquisition to its core.
Darkhammer is a firm believer in the extermination of all other races in the galaxy for the survival of humanity. He strictly adheres to the laws of the Inquisition, seeing the world in absolutes: black and white, darkness and light. His philosophy revolves around the idea that any sacrifice is justified to preserve the Imperium. Such a concept has earned him numerous enemies, not just Valeria, but also within the Inquisition.
As Valeria and Darkhammer continue their dangerous game of cat and mouse, the fate of the Inquisition hangs in the balance. These are indeed dark times, and only the strongest, and perhaps the most ruthless, will survive.
