The Mysterious Blackstone Fortresses
Deep within the galaxy, a series of ancient and powerful starships lie waiting to be discovered. The Blackstone Fortresses, created by the Eldar before their downfall, hold secrets and technologies beyond human comprehension.
Origins and Purpose
The Blackstone Fortresses were designed to counter the return of the C’tan, malevolent beings that threatened the galaxy. These massive ships, also known as the Talismen of Vaul, were built to harness immense power and create a beam of pure immaterium capable of destroying entire planets.
Technology and Capabilities
Each Blackstone Fortress is a marvel of engineering, generating enormous amounts of energy even while dormant. Their advanced technology allows them to break the barrier between realspace and warpspace, unleashing devastating attacks on enemy forces. When linked together, multiple Fortresses can create an even more powerful beam, as demonstrated by Abaddon’s destruction of the planet Fularis II.
History and Discovery
Six Blackstone Fortresses were discovered by the Imperium in the Gothic Sector around M31. Initially, the Imperium attempted to study and retrofit the Fortresses, but their true power and purpose remained unknown. The Adeptus Mechanicus managed to reactivate some of the Fortresses’ systems, but their attempts to control them ultimately proved disastrous.
Chaos and Destruction
Abaddon, the Despoiler, learned of the Blackstone Fortresses through the manipulation of the C’tan Mephet’ran. He launched a Black Crusade to capture and activate the Fortresses, succeeding in taking three. However, the combined might of the Imperium and the Eldar thwarted his plans, and the remaining Fortresses self-destructed or were destroyed.
Legacy and Aftermath
The two surviving Chaos-held Fortresses reappeared during the 13th Black Crusade, supporting Typhus and his Plaguefleet. One of the Fortresses, the Will of Eternity, nearly destroyed Cadia before being crippled by the Phalanx. Abaddon later gifted one of the Fortresses to Huron Blackheart, but it had been rendered unstable by daemonic possession.
Known Blackstone Fortresses
Several Blackstone Fortresses have been identified, including Magog, Blackstone I, and the Seventh Blackstone Fortress. Others remain hidden, waiting to be discovered and potentially used for good or evil.
The Quest for Control
The Eldar seek to capture and control the Blackstone Fortresses, recognizing their potential as powerful tools against the forces of Chaos. The Imperium, too, hopes to harness their energy, but the risks of daemonic corruption and instability remain high. As the battle for control of the Blackstone Fortresses continues, the fate of the galaxy hangs in the balance.
