Unveiling the Ancient Beings of Pure Energy
In the dawn of time, when the universe was still unfolding, the first self-aware entities emerged from the primordial plasma and solar flares. These ancient beings, known as the C’tan, were born from the raw energy of the cosmos. Initially, they existed as monstrous parasites, feeding on the power of stars and shortening their lives by millennia.
As the C’tan evolved, they developed diaphanous wings of magnetic flux, allowing them to fly through the void and seek out new sources of energy. Their existence was benign and unchanging until the intervention of the Necrontyr, a civilization that had been defeated by the Old Ones and scattered to the halo stars.
The Necrontyr discovered anomalies in the oldest dying stars, which led them to the C’tan. These beings of pure energy, feeding on solar flares and magnetic storms, were perceived as the progeny of the Necrontyr death-god. The first contact between the Necrontyr and the C’tan was established with Aza’gorod the Nightbringer, a being born upon the very star where the Necrontyr first lived their brief, morbid lives.
The Nightbringer was incarnated within a body of living metal and brought with it the curse of death. It fed upon the terror and suffering of the Necrontyr, slaughtering those who had brought it into being. Only by pledging servitude to the Nightbringer were the Necrontyr able to convince it to spare their lives.
The C’tan continued to grow in power, eventually turning against their creators, the Old Ones. This conflict, known as the War in Heaven, would rage across the galaxy for millions of years, leaving countless worlds in ruins. The C’tan, however, were not invincible, and their constant infighting and power struggles would ultimately lead to their downfall.
From the ashes of the War in Heaven, the Necrons emerged as a new and powerful force in the galaxy. These mechanical warriors, created by the C’tan themselves, would go on to become one of the most feared armies in the universe.
Despite their downfall, the C’tan left behind a lasting legacy in the form of their shards, fragments of their essence that continue to exert influence over the galaxy. These shards, often used as unwilling weapons by the Necrons, still hold the power to shape the course of history.
Powers Beyond Comprehension
Each C’tan possesses unique abilities that defy understanding. They can manipulate the very fabric of reality, bending time and space to their will. Their powers include antimatter meteors, cosmic fire, entropic touch, and the gaze of death.
C’tan Weaknesses: The Warp
Despite their formidable powers, the C’tan have a significant weakness: their inability to comprehend the warp. This vulnerability makes them susceptible to warp-spawned magicks and psykers.
A Complex Relationship with the Imperium
The C’tan’s interactions with the Imperium are multifaceted and complex. While they pose a significant threat to humanity, they also offer opportunities for discovery and exploration. As the Imperium continues to uncover more about these enigmatic beings, they must also confront the risks and challenges that come with exploring the unknown.
The C’tan remain an enigma, their true nature and intentions shrouded in mystery. Their powers, weaknesses, and interactions with the Imperium all contribute to a complex and fascinating narrative.
