Warhammer 40K Daemon

The Daemons of Chaos: Malevolent Entities of the Warp

In the vast expanse of the Warp, there exist entities known as Daemons, also referred to as Neverborn. These malevolent beings are created by the Chaos gods from their own power and serve as extensions of their will. Daemons can take on various forms, reflecting the nature of the god that created them.

The Birth of a Daemon

A Daemon is born when a Chaos god expends a portion of its power to create a separate being. This being is bound together by a collection of senses, thoughts, and purposes, essentially creating a consciousness and personality that can move within the Warp. The Chaos god can reclaim this form at any time, ensuring the loyalty of the Daemon.

Daemons in Realspace

While Daemons are entities of the Warp, they can breach the walls separating the Warp from realspace, allowing them to enter the mortal universe. However, they cannot exist for long periods in realspace without being banished back to the Warp. When a Daemon is banished, it must remain in a purgatorial state within its master’s realm for an indeterminate period before it can regain its form.

Types of Daemons

There are several types of Daemons, each with its own unique characteristics and abilities. These include:

  • Greater Daemons: The most powerful of the Chaos gods’ servants, acting as wardens of their patron’s realm.
  • Lesser Daemons: The foot soldiers of Chaos, building the core of the Daemonic Legions.
  • Daemonic Creatures: Primal entities that are often granted to other Daemons or mortal followers.

Notable Chaos Daemons

Some notable Daemons include:

  • Skarbrand the Exiled One: A Bloodthirster and one of the most powerful Daemons in the Warp.
  • Kairos Fateweaver: A Lord of Change and a master of manipulation.
  • N’Kari: A Daemon Prince and a champion of Slaanesh.

The Power of Daemonic Names

Daemons have True Names that hold ultimate power over them. These names are highly prized, and those who possess them can wield significant influence over the Daemon. However, Daemons often use use-names and titles to conceal their True Names, making it difficult for mortals to gain power over them.

The Threat of Daemons

Daemons pose a significant threat to the mortal universe, seeking to spread Chaos and destruction throughout the galaxy. The Imperium of Man has dedicated significant resources to combating the Daemonic threat, but the constant shifting loyalties of the Chaos gods make it a challenging foe to defeat.
