Indomitus Crusade Warhammer 40K – Part 2 (Part 2 of 4)

The Imperium Strikes Back: A New Era of Reconquest

In the wake of the Great Rift, the Imperium of Man was beset on all sides by threats both internal and external. Yet, under the guidance of Roboute Guilliman, the Lord Commander of the Imperium, a beacon of hope emerged. The Indomitus Crusade, a massive undertaking aimed at reclaiming lost worlds and driving back the forces of Chaos, was launched.

The First Wave

The initial fleets to depart Terra were led by Fleetmaster Cassandra VanLeskus and her Fleet Tertius, which successfully battled the Khornate Crusade of Slaughter in the Sol System. Meanwhile, Fleet Secundus, spearheaded by the Battle Sisters of the Order of the Ebon Chalice, engaged the forces of Chaos in Segmentum Obscurus. Fleet Primus, under the personal command of Guilliman, set out with the largest contingent of Ultima Founding Primaris Space Marines.

Victories and Challenges

As the Indomitus Crusade gained momentum, key victories were won at Gathalamor, Drogos System, and Tallarn. However, not all worlds were salvageable, and Guilliman was forced to make the difficult decision to bring vengeance and Exterminatus to certain planets. The Crusade also encountered numerous systems where Imperial citizens were enthralled to the Chaos Gods, a bitter reality for Guilliman and his forces.

Cooperation and Reinforcements

Guilliman sought cooperation from the Space Wolves to protect the way to Terra from emerging Ork forces. After a meeting with Logan Grimnar, the Space Wolves agreed to battle the Orks, and in return, received Primaris Space Marine reinforcements. Archmagos Cawl continued to create new Primaris Marines, awakening thousands from stasis aboard the Zar-Quaesitor.

War Zones and Supply Issues

By the fifth year of the Indomitus Crusade, the impetus of the earlier struggle had bled away, and many Battle Groups found themselves mired in expanding warzones. The slow reconquest was not universal, and large areas of the Imperium remained contested. Supply issues became a major problem, with Crusade fleets often forced to requisition supplies from newly liberated worlds, leading to local discontent.

A Long and Difficult Road

The Indomitus Crusade marked the beginning of a long and difficult road to recovery for the Imperium. While progress was made, the challenges ahead were daunting. The Traitor Legions remained active, and the threat of Chaos, Xenos, and other enemies continued to loom large. The Imperium’s fate hung in the balance, as Guilliman and his forces fought to reclaim the galaxy and ensure humanity’s survival.
