Lion El Jonson Warhammer 40K – Part 3 (Part 3 of 7)

A Legacy of Rivalry and Loyalty

In the midst of the Great Crusade, a legendary confrontation took place between two iconic Primarchs: Leman Russ of the Space Wolves and Lion El’Jonson of the Dark Angels. The stage was set on the planet Dulan, where the independent Faash empire had risen in defiance against the Emperor. The Faash leader, in a bold and ill-fated move, had insulted Leman Russ, labeling him “The Emperor’s Lapdog.” This personal affront ignited a firestorm of wrath within Russ, who vowed to sever the rebel leader’s head from his shoulders.

However, Lion El’Jonson had other plans. Having spent days gathering intelligence on the rebel headquarters’ defenses, he orchestrated a meticulous assault that would minimize casualties. As the Dark Angels launched their attack, Russ was forced to watch from the sidelines as El’Jonson claimed the rebel leader’s life. This perceived slight sparked a fierce confrontation between the two Primarchs, culminating in a day-long wrestling match that ended with no clear victor.

A Rivalry Forged in Blood

The aftermath of this clash saw the seeds of a legendary rivalry sown. Russ swore to avenge his honor, and the two Chapters have since engaged in countless honor duels, fueling a deep-seated animosity that has simmered for centuries. This enduring feud has yielded moments of mutual respect, but also episodes of open hostility, as mistrust and suspicion continue to simmer just below the surface.

Lion El’Jonson’s Quest for Loyalty

As the Horus Heresy unfolded, Lion El’Jonson found himself at the forefront of the battle against the traitorous Warmaster. Recognizing the imperative to prevent Horus from reaching Terra, El’Jonson led a daring mission to secure powerful siege engines on the forge world of Diamat. This audacious move proved to be a masterstroke, as it denied Horus the tools necessary to breach the Imperial Palace.

However, El’Jonson’s subsequent encounter with Perturabo, who would later reveal himself to be a traitor, would have far-reaching consequences. The Lion’s attempt to forge an alliance with Perturabo ultimately backfired, setting the stage for the tragic events that would unfold.

Confronting the Night Haunter

As part of Horus’ campaign to divert loyalist Legions from Terra, the Night Lords were dispatched to the Eastern Fringes, where they unleashed a reign of terror upon countless worlds. It was here that Lion El’Jonson would confront the enigmatic Konrad Curze, who revealed a prophecy concerning the future of the Dark Angels. The meeting degenerated into a violent clash, leaving both combatants gravely injured.

Undeterred, El’Jonson pressed on, driven by his unwavering loyalty to the Emperor. He obtained a powerful warp engine known as Tuchulcha, which enabled him to coordinate entire fleets in a warp jump. This newfound power allowed him to launch a devastating ambush against the Night Lords, forcing Curze to flee for his life.

A Final Confrontation

The Invincible Reason, the Lion’s flagship, became the stage for a final, brutal confrontation between El’Jonson and Curze. As the Night Haunter wreaked havoc throughout the vessel, the Lion took up the hunt, determined to bring his brother Primarch to justice. The battle raged on for sixteen weeks, with neither side yielding. Ultimately, Curze vanished into the depths of the ship, leaving El’Jonson to ponder the true nature of loyalty and the unyielding duty that bound him to the Emperor.
