M41 Warhammer 40K – Part 2 (Part 2 of 14)

The Imperium of Man: A Turbulent Era

Assassinations and Rediscoveries

The Imperium of Man was shaken to its core with the assassination of Fenton Kail, a renowned discoverer of an intact Standard Template Construct. This event sent shockwaves throughout the galaxy, as it was a stark reminder of the dangers that lurked in the shadows.

Meanwhile, the Hive World of Persepolis was re-contacted by the Imperium after 5,000 years of isolation. This rediscovery sparked a new era of exploration and expansion, as the Imperium sought to reclaim lost territories and forge new alliances.

Crusades and Heresies

The Segmentum Pacificus was the site of a seven-year Crusade, led by Lord Commander Solar Macharius. The Crusade brought nearly one thousand worlds into the Imperium’s fold, but ultimately ended in tragedy with Macharius’ death and the outbreak of the Macharian Heresy.

As the Imperium struggled to maintain order, Inquisitor Gideon Ravenor and his team investigated the illicit trade of flects, a warp-tainted drug, on Eustis Majoris. Their findings revealed a web of corruption and deceit that threatened the very fabric of Imperial society.

Battles and Uprisings

The Dark Angels Chapter of Space Marines suppressed civil wars during the Macharian Heresy, while the Ravenwing uncovered cults and signs of Cypher’s presence. An encounter with the Space Wolves allowed several Fallen Angels to escape during the Lythanos Uprisings.

In the Koronus Expanse, Waaagh! Gulgrog laid siege to Port Wander, prompting a massive response from Battlefleet Calixis. The Fist of Adamant crippled the ork flagship, routing the invasion and securing a vital Imperial victory.

Inquisitions and Purges

The Inquisition launched a series of purges against those deemed heretical or corrupt. Lord-Captain Balastus Irem and his family were wiped out for dealing in xenotech excavated from the Cineris Malificum. Inquisitor Hesten compiled the Hesten manuscript, documenting principles of the God Incarnate.

On Ghosar Quintus, Inquisitor Chaegryn investigated a suspected heretical turn from the Imperial Cult. His disappearance prompted a Deathwatch kill team to be reassigned to retrieve him and uncover the truth.

Warp Storms and Omens

A sudden and severe rise in warp storm activity afflicted the Segmentum Tempestus, plaguing even the most reliable Warp routes. Psykers reported recurring nightmares of dead cities and rising darkness, as the Ordo Hereticus and Ordo Malleus ruthlessly suppressed knowledge of this nightmare epidemic.

In the Orpheus Sector, a localised and violent warp storm designated the “Howling Vortex” engulfed the Barren Stars, cutting off the Morros Lachrymal penitentiary from the rest of the sector.

Rogue Traders and Ancient Secrets

Rogue trader Orolshan discovered the derelict Eternal Praetorian in orbit of the Witch-Cursed World. Meanwhile, the Angelis Boat, a buried ship of unknown metal, suddenly awakened without warning and flew away, sparking suspicions of a Necron Dirge class raider.

As the Imperium navigated these turbulent times, the discovery of ancient secrets and lost technologies held the key to unlocking new possibilities and forging a brighter future.
