Malcador The Sigillite Warhammer 40K – Part 3 (Part 3 of 6)

The Architect of the Inquisition

In the early days of the Horus Heresy, the Emperor entrusted a critical mission to Malcador, the First Lord of Terra. Malcador was tasked with assembling a group of exceptional individuals, known for their unwavering character, unrelenting skill, and unshakeable determination. This elite group would form the foundation of the Imperial Inquisition, an organization dedicated to rooting out treachery and heresy throughout the Imperium.

Recruiting the Knights-Errant

Malcador’s first recruits included Nathaniel Garro, a renowned hero of the Death Guard, and Iacton Qruze, a former captain of the Sons of Horus. Garro was tasked with recruiting additional members for the Knights-Errant, a group that would eventually become the Grey Knights Space Marine chapter. Qruze, on the other hand, remained close to Malcador, serving as his trusted “hand” in investigative matters.

The Chaplain Edict

Malcador played a pivotal role in shaping the Imperium’s response to the Horus Heresy. He issued the Chaplain Edict at Nikaea, establishing a group of Marines responsible for maintaining order and discipline within their ranks. These chaplains were also tasked with identifying and reporting instances of heresy and psychic powers.

Assassination Attempts

As the Master of Assassins, Malcador orchestrated several attempts to eliminate Horus, the traitorous Warmaster. While these efforts ultimately proved unsuccessful, they demonstrate Malcador’s unwavering commitment to the Imperium’s cause.

The Council of War

Malcador participated in a crucial council of war, alongside prominent leaders such as Rogal Dorn, Sanguinius, Leman Russ, and Jaghatai Khan. During this gathering, Malcador attempted to persuade Russ to remain on Terra, rather than confronting Horus directly.

Investigating the Sisters of Silence

As the Horus Heresy raged on, Malcador became embroiled in a mysterious investigation involving the disappearance and mutilation of Sisters of Silence. He discovered that the jailed Sisters’ presence negated his psychic powers, and that one of his own allies, Tylos Rubio, had been brainwashed by the traitor Erebus.

Founding the Grey Knights

In the final stages of the Horus Heresy, Malcador brought his chosen Knights-Errant before the Emperor, who revealed a special contingency plan to fight the forces of the Warp. Malcador’s Chosen would become the Grey Knights, an elite chapter of Space Marines dedicated to defending the Imperium against the threats of Chaos.

The Ultimate Project

Malcador’s ultimate project involved gathering twenty exceptional individuals, including lords, administrators, and Space Marines from both loyalist and traitor legions. These recruits would form the foundation of the Inquisition, while the Space Marines would travel to Saturn’s moon of Titan to forge a new chapter in the Imperium’s history.
