The Rise and Fall of the Necron Empire
In a distant era, the Necrontyr civilization underwent a radical transformation. Led by their ruler, Szarekh, they embarked on a massive bio-transference process, exchanging their fragile bodies for immortal ones made of living metal. This revolution came at a terrible cost: their souls were lost in the process, leaving behind only a few individuals with intact intellects. The once-proud Necrontyr had become soulless machines, known as the Necrons.
War in Heaven
As the Necrons rose to power, they joined forces with the C’tan, ancient beings of immense energy. Together, they unleashed a devastating war against the Old Ones, who were overwhelmed by the sheer might of their opponents. The conflict raged across the galaxy, consuming entire star systems and civilizations. In a desperate bid to counter the C’tan’s influence, the Old Ones seeded planets with life, hoping to create new allies. However, this strategy ultimately led to their downfall.
The Downfall of the Old Ones
As the War in Heaven reached its climax, the Old Ones’ intergalactic network was shattered, and their strongholds were overrun by eldritch horrors. Their power broken, the Old Ones were scattered, and their minions fell prey to the Enslaver Plague. The C’tan, however, remained a formidable force, until Szarekh, now known as the Silent King, turned against them. Harnessing the energy of the universe, the Necrons forged mighty weapons that shattered the C’tan into shards.
The Silent King’s Gambit
With both the Old Ones and C’tan defeated, the Silent King realized that the time of the Necrons had come to an end. The Eldar, who had fought alongside the Old Ones, would soon rise to dominance. Weakened by the War in Heaven and their revolt against the C’tan, the Necrons could not withstand the Eldar’s might. In a bold move, the Silent King ordered his people to transform their cities into great tomb complexes, where they would sleep for sixty million years, awaiting the day when they would reawaken and reclaim their former glory.
The Great Sleep
For sixty million years, the Necrons slumbered in their tombs, awaiting the call to rise again. However, many Tomb Worlds fell prey to malfunction or destruction, taking millions of dormant Necrons with them. The Silent King, meanwhile, vanished into the unknown, seeking solace or penance for his actions. As the ages passed, the legend of the Necrons faded into myth, until the day when they would rise again, ready to reclaim their place among the stars.
