Nimbosa Crusade: Warhammer 40K

The Battle for Nimbosa: A Tale of Two Phases

Initial Invasion and Defence

In the grim darkness of the 41st millennium, the T’au Empire sought to expand its dominion over the galaxy. One of their key targets was the planet Nimbosa, a world on the Eastern Fringe of the Imperium. The T’au forces, led by Commander Brightsword, launched a massive invasion, overwhelming the Imperial defenders.

The only force able to resist the initial onslaught was the Vostroyan Firstborn IX, under the command of Graf Toschenko. They fortified the factory city of Polia, preparing for a desperate defence. The T’au employed Kroot auxiliaries to identify Imperial strongpoints, which were then bombarded by T’au armour. Despite heavy casualties, the T’au strategy proved successful, and they gained a foothold in the city.

Graf Toschenko authorized a counterattack, focusing on the central Cathedral. Initially, the Imperial forces made gains, catching the Kroot off guard. However, the T’au discipline held, and the Imperial advance was eventually repelled. Graf Toschenko’s command squad was destroyed, and the Graf himself was killed in the fighting.

The Crusade to Reclaim Nimbosa

The Imperium would not let Nimbosa fall without a fight. A massive crusade was launched to reclaim the planet, involving multiple Space Marine Chapters, including the Black Templars and Imperial Fists. The initial battles took place in space, as the Imperial forces sought to destroy the T’au orbitals locked in geostationary orbit around Nimbosa.

The Black Templars’ Strike Cruiser Dorn’s Wrath played a key role in the assault, using its speed and boarding torpedoes to penetrate the hull of the T’au orbital, Orbital Primus. The Templar force then split into small squads, using grenades and chainswords to outflank and crush the T’au defenders.

After securing the orbital, the Imperial forces turned its guns on the other T’au orbitals, weakening their defences. The Ultramarines’ 1st Company then launched a devastating assault on the T’au garrison, eliminating their anti-air turrets and leaders. The campaign ended with the successful recapture of Nimbosa and the destruction of the T’au garrison.

Timeline Discrepancies

There are discrepancies in the timeline of the Nimbosa campaign. Different sources place the date of the attack between 790.M41 and 993.M41. The exact timing of the events is unclear, but the outcome is certain: the Imperium reclaimed Nimbosa, and the T’au Empire suffered a significant defeat.
