Ragnar Blackmane Warhammer 40K – Part 2 (Part 2 of 2)

The Unyielding Leader: Ragnar Blackmane

In the storied history of the Space Wolves, few have risen through the ranks as swiftly and decisively as Ragnar Blackmane. His ascension to Wolf Lord was nothing short of meteoric, bypassing the traditional rank of Grey Hunter altogether.

A Hero Forged in Battle

Ragnar’s remarkable journey began when he single-handedly slew Ork Warlord Borzag Khan and his retinue in close combat. This feat caught the attention of Berek Thunderfist, who elevated Ragnar to Wolf Guard. When Berek fell to the Chaos champion Ghorox Bloodfist, Ragnar avenged his former Lord’s death, solidifying his position as a formidable leader.

Wolf Lord at a Young Age

As a result of his unwavering bravery, Ragnar became the youngest battle-brother to ever attain the rank of Wolf Lord. He took command of Berek’s Great Company and went on to fight in numerous battles, including the Magdelon Incursion in 712.M41. Later, during the Hunt for the Wulfen, Ragnar battled in Daemon-haunted jungles to recover his former 13th Great Company brethren.

Confronting the Beast

One of Ragnar’s most notable confrontations was with the infamous Ork Warboss Ghazghkull Thraka. Despite suffering severe wounds, Ragnar managed to decapitate the Ork Warboss, only to discover that Ghazghkull still lived. Undeterred, Ragnar redirected an orbital station into Krongar’s surface in another attempt to slay The Beast.

Wargear and Loyalty

Ragnar wields the Frostblade Frostfang and Bolt Pistol, while wearing the Belt of Russ, gifted to each Great Company. He also dons the skin cloak of a Fenrisian Wolf he slew during his Trial of Morkai. Ragnar’s loyalty is matched only by that of his Wolf Guard, which includes Brothers Egil and Gunnar.

A Complex Legacy

While some sources claim Ragnar was recruited by Ulrik the Slayer, others contradict this, stating that Ranek Icewalker recruited him. Regardless of the truth, Ragnar’s unwavering dedication to the Space Wolves remains unshakeable. His legacy continues to inspire, with the Blood Ravens artificers crafting a Power Axe in his honor, the Gift of Blackmane.
