The Hive World of Black Reach & the Shadows of Ultramarines
The Hive World of Black Reach was already beleaguered by Orcs wielding deadly new weaponry when Captain Catarius and the Second Company of Ultramarines arrived in orbit. The greenskin menace had overrun much of the planet. Unfazed, Catarius and his battle brothers deployed immediately to reinforce Gopar, the besieged capital city.
The Ultramarines made their descent in drop pods, their arrival heralded by a thunderous orbital bombardment. They faced a brief but bloody battle against the Orcs, casting them from Gosper’s walls before setting off in search of the elusive warlord, Zanz.
Captain Sarius led a deadly Search and Destroy mission. He razed several Orc forts along the Black Wallow River, but Zanz continued to evade him. When Suora Hive came under attack from a massive Orc horde, Sarius handed over the hunt to Veteran Sergeant Toria Telon and his Scouts.
Telon soon discovered that the Orcs were transporting warriors and weapons across the Black Wallow River via crude submersibles. He tracked them to a vast natural cave, Zanz’s base of operations. Sarius quickly gathered what forces could be spared and boarded a Thunderhawk gunship to assault the Orc stronghold.
The Ultramarines’ attack was swift and ferocious. They took the Orcs by surprise, tearing into their formation with heavy Bolter shells and Hellstrike missiles. Within moments, the Thunderhawk’s front ramp slammed open, and Captain Sarius led his Space Marines into the heart of battle.
Striding forward with Bolters blazing, they cut down scores of Orcs before the greenskins could mount a counterattack. Zanz directed his boys to fire their superweapons, but their shots proved nearly worthless against the inviolable armor of the Ultramarines’ Terminators.
After an hour of bloody fighting in the cavernous stronghold, the Ultramarines emerged victorious. Sarius struck down Zanz, severing the warlord’s head from his shoulders with a strike from his power sword. The threat of W. Zanz was ended.
Episode V: The Battle of Oras Seiler & the Scepter of Galaxian
The Imperial world of Com was thrown into turmoil when an Eldar emissary from the Belan Craftworld was executed after his pleas for the return of an ancient artifact turned into threats of violence. The artifact, the Scepter of Galaxian, lay in the tomb of Captain Aura on the planet Oras Seiler.
Anticipating an Eldar attack, the governor of Com requested aid from the Ultramarines. Chapter Master Manus Calgar led his entire chapter to defend the tomb from Eldar forces from the Allatto and Yandan Craftworlds.
Despite relentless attacks, the Eldar could not overcome Calgar’s tactical brilliance. Their initial assault was repelled by disciplined Bolter volleys, and their retreat was cut off by Assault Marines and Land Speeders.
A fresh onslaught led by an Avatar of Kha’Mena Kain nearly broke the Ultramarines’ lines until Calgar personally engaged the war god. Despite sustaining several blows, Calgar struck down the Avatar. With the fall of their war god, the Eldar retreated, and Calgar had the Scepter of Galaxian moved to Mcag for better protection.
Episode VI: The Great Bastion of Andraus & the Legion of the Damned
Chief Librarian Tigurius led an Ultramarine strike force to rescue a delegation of Tech Priests from an Orc invasion on the world of Andraus. Within the Great Bastion, the Tech Priests had unearthed a Force Staff with the electo-recognition codes of Malador the Sigite.
The Ultramarines’ precise and furious strike was met with overwhelming Orc reinforcements. Outnumbered 50 to 1, Tigurius and his men were on the brink of defeat when the Legion of the Damned burst into real space, devastating the Orc forces. The Great Bastion was secured, and the surviving Imperials were evacuated. The Force Staff was recovered, revealing secrets about the Golden Throne’s construction and the Emperor’s sacrifice.
Episode VII: The Damnos Incident & the Necron Threat
Under the command of Captain Cato Sarius, the Ultramarine Second Company rescued survivors from the doomed world of Damnos. An Imperial Civilized World and Mining World, Damnos was also a Necron Tomb World. The Necrons awakened and launched a massive assault on all life on the planet’s surface. Despite the efforts of Damnos’ Planetary Defense Force and Imperial Guard regiments, they were unable to defeat the cybernetic xenos.
The Ultramarines made a valiant stand at the planetary capital city of Kellen Port, holding the Necrons back as the evacuation of the planet’s Imperial population proceeded. During what became known as the Damnos Incident, Chief Librarian Tigurius was found wherever the Ultramarines were hardest pressed, using his psychic powers to shatter the advancing Necrons and summon shields to protect their prey.
Venerable Dreadnaught Agrippin also performed heroic deeds, holding Kellen Port’s Western Gate alone for three hours and obliterating all who opposed him. By the time Kellen Port’s defenders were driven back to their last bastion, only 40 Space Marines and 20 Imperial Guardsmen remained. The Damnos Incident was a stark reminder of the relentless Necron threat, and the sacrifices made by the Ultramarines in defense of the Imperium.
